XCOM: Enemy Unknown

1. Problem

2K Games needed a fresh marketing tactic to garner excitement over the release of classic science fiction video game XCOM. Originally released in 1994, the game had an entirely new and updated graphic interface but held true to its original turn-based roots.


2. Process

Together with 2k Games we developed an interactive trailer that mimicked XCOM’s gameplay by letting the audience make tactical decisions that would effect the mission outcome - all done through YouTube. Our game trailer differed from traditional trailers in that it was not linear - users were thrust into the action through an interactive, choose your own adventure experience.


3. Result

The trailer was a success, garnering praise from Complex and Kotaku..
